Initially I had mixed feelings about this album. I found that everyone was going on about how the album wasn't as good as Coldplay's previous albums. But it only took a couple times listening to this album for me to shake that mentality. It's very different from their older stuff. I can't go more in depth in that description, my musical knowledge doesn't allow me to. All I can say is it's different. And honestly, if Coldplay released an album which was exactly like their old stuff, we'd probably get bored. They're growing and we just have to grow with them. If anything I really enjoyed listening to this album. Doesn't take long to notice this is one of their more politically packed deeper meaning albums. That stuff flies right by me anyways, sorry I'm a shallow music listener I guess.
A couple of my favorite tracks in this albums would probably have to be Lost! and Lovers in Japan. There's actually an acoustic version of Lost! you can get as well. Not sure why, the song is just amazing. Lovers in Japan is a bit faster than the other tracks in the album, and as someone commented before, probably one of the benchmarks for this album. There's actually two tracks in one, it's upbeat Lovers in Japan is followed by a much mellower Reign of Love. They have very opposite themes. And of course Vida la Vida, I'm not sure if sounds like any of their old stuff. Strawberry Swing is probably most like their old stuff. It's new, it's different, and I like it.

the biggest problem with coldplay has always been their inability to grow. this was painfully clear on x+y which was just overproduced and self-conscious drivel. viva la vida seems to show a real sense of development and maturity, and i was surprised by how much i liked it.
