Well, Land of Talk will be here on Friday in Ottawa at Westfest. So if you don’t have anything else to do, make sure you go cause Westfest is free. How can you give up a free concert? I love these guys, they’re great. Not only that but they’re straight out of Montreal, Canada! They kind of remind me of Metric but not really? It’s different in some ways that I can’t seem to explain. Included three tracks for you, Magnetic Hill being my favorite one. They’re still a bit underground, more reason for you to check them out.
One new track today and two old ones. As a part of Converse’s Century celebration, Pharrell, N.E.R.D., Santogold, and Julian Casablancas from The Strokes joined together to make the track “My Drive Thru”. It’s due to be released tomorrow June 10th and the track will be available free off the Converse website. Seeing as they’re releasing it for free, I decided to only provide you the sample track, a taste of what’s in store. After that’s over, I’ll post the download links. Don’t expect any less from N.E.R.D. I also included the Justice remix of Justin Timberlake. I thought it was about time I posted the track. It’s very Justice anyways, I think I said the same thing last time and didn’t really explain it. And lastly, the Soulwax remix of Robbie Williams. It’s Belgian electro, so get used to it or get lost.

Here’s the Calvin Harris post I promised earlier. Absolutely loving it, he recently came out with the album I Created Disco. And the first song is a props to anyone born in the 80’s. Those of you 90’s babies? Can go to hell! From his titles like “I Created Disco” and lyrics, he can sound a bit much sometimes, but all his beats make up for it. It’s all in good fun anyways. The second song, The Girls, had me laughing a bit. But Dragonette‘s version of the song The Boys is even funnier. They’re all pretty old songs, but you can’t beat Calvin Harris.
Might as well post the Ting Tings, now that they’re on the iPod commercial. I’m sure you’ve seen it cause while I was watching Seinfeld, I definitely saw them play the commercial at least twice per commercial break. They’re a bit off-genre from what I normally post, but I actually really liked the song Shut Up and Let Me Go. Though they probably hate this comparison, they vaguely remind me of CSS. They released their debut album We Started Nothing last month and have gotten pretty big since. I included two of their original tracks and the Doctor Werewolf remix of That’s Not My Name. Love the remix.
So I just happened across Alan Wilkis in my mailbox one day in Europe and I decided to give it a listen. Loved it. I’m not even sure what genre to give the new album Babies Dream Big, what would you give yourself Alan? It sounds like a mash up of electro synth with rock and indie with a tiny bit of soul. As you can see I just jumped right across the genres of music, least to say this album has a huge variety of styles which I always find refreshing in an album. Along with the three tracks I included, you have to grab I Wanna Know and I Love the Way as well. Both tracks you can listen to on his myspace.
Oh Crystal Castles. I finally got the courage to post these guys. A couple months late, but whatever. Good before, good now. If I had to describe them properly, I guess I’d say it’s like noises? Strange but interesting anyways. I included their track Crimewave, my favorite by them. You’ve probably heard it one way or another, it’s also their most popular track. I also have the Lazrtag remix of Crimewave, which is an upbeat version of the song I guess and the CFCF remix of Air War. It’s one of their stranger tracks, but I really like the remix of the song. Make sure you check out their debut album Crimewaves.
This is just a mini-post for today. It’s a mini-post because there’s no streaming except for what streams from zshare. I still have a post for Mixtape Saturday coming up in a bit, but I decided to make an exception from my usual stuff to post some Madonna. Yes, it is a guilty pleasure of mine and I’m sure it’s one of yours as well. Her new album Hard Candy came out recently, check it out. That’s definitely what the picture was supposed to represent. There’s some great remixes of her song 4 Minutes featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. The first is a remix by Timbaland himself, it takes away some of those horns from the original and adds some stronger baselines. I really like it actually. Jacques Lu Cont kind of mashed 4 Minutes together with Madonna’s older song Hung Up, very club if anything. Dominik von Werdt got the song a bit more into the electro feel, very Euro electro dirty. And lastly, Bob Sinclar made one of my favorite one of the remixes which sounds almost French House. Huge differences with the same song.
