So turns out Daft Punk is feeling awfully nice and is streaming their upcoming album out May 21 on iTunes. Who knows for how long, but listen to it as soon as possible! As I am still stuck at work, I will have to wait until I get home until I get a chance. Knowing my luck, it’ll be down by then.
Just open their artist page in iTunes, click that “View in iTunes” button and it’ll lead you to preview the album for free!
It’s out! The real thing. Daft Punk‘s newest single Get Lucky officially marks their return to the real world. Soon to be followed by their upcoming album Random Access memories due for May 20, or if you’re lucky enough to be in Australia or do shady business, May 17. I’m also pretty excited for their 7-yearly Alive tour which I hope they will be coming to Toronto. I’m hoping for a better venue than last time’s Arrow Hall in Mississauga, but I guess you have to make sacrifices when you have that many people for a single concert.
Comments on the track itself? I’m really liking it, Pharrell is a great match for Daft Punk. However, there was a bit more Pharrell than I was expecting. I think this was because I listened to the TheBeatmaniac remix “we are rough on Mexican monkeys” robotic voice clip ripped from the SNL commercials on repeat for like a week straight. This is a radio edit though, so I am hoping for a full or extended version of the track with a bit more Daft Punk essence in it. This is kind of a perfect first single for the album. Get it from iTunes.
I was going to rummage through my inbox today to get some music, the inbox that has like 2000 unread messages where a good portion of it is spam, but I couldn’t give up the awesome tunes that’s on Hype right now. And no, I’m not bragging about my carelessness towards checking my email, I’m actually really ashamed of it because it’s kind of integral of running a blog. It’s a tiny bit difficult though not having access to internet to check my email. Though I did see a lot of turtles, a bear, a white-tailed deer, and a grouse though, along with many mosquitoes and black flies which loved biting me. On to the music I’m really excited for!!
By far my favorite remix of Daft Punk‘s Tron’s Derezzed so far by Robotaki. Your remixes never cease to amaze me, loving the intro the track and that clean non-generic beat. I totally thought I made a Derezzed post, I guess I didn’t. Well, that’ll have to come up soon cause there are some pretty great ones out there. Second more groove track is the Viceroy edit of Duck Sauce Goody Two Shoes. And lastly, reminding me of the good old times, the Lazy Rich remix of Fast Foot Protect Animals. Sounds slightly like Boys Noize meets SebastiAn to me.
The new Tron soundtrack is being released on December 7th, as we all know which was produced by Daft Punk. Before everyone goes wild, they were commissioned (although completely willingly and enthusiastic) to do a soundtrack for a movie. So everyone expecting full on French House madness will be utterly disappointed. I’m expecting a fantastic soundtrack, definitely not Daft Punk album #4. I know, it’s totally a given but some people just don’t get it reading some comments around the net. Didn’t include any originals, but the NTEIBINT remix of Derezzed.
Digitalism released a new EP Blitz which is fantastic because I haven’t really heard anything big from them since really Idealism, although the remixes from Moshi Moshi were great. The track Blitz really brings me back to the good old days. I hope this means we should be expecting an album from them soon.
The last track is actually from the good old days, the Bag Raiders remix of Cut Copy‘s Far Away, but with a nice little twist for you guys and future posts to come. I saw this track show up recently on Hype and was surprised I never posted it before. I am a huge Cut Copy fan and a even bigger Bag Raiders fan. The twist? Bag Raiders released their debut self titled album this month. What?! Yeah I know, I’ve yet to listen to it but it’s on the top of my to-do list.
Here on a beautiful Sunday, posting a great remix producer Death to the Throne. I posted his first original release earlier this year. I noticed these on Hype Machine and looked around the blog, somehow I missed both these remixes! They’re from 2009, but they’re amazing! I couldn’t believe the remix of The xx‘s Shelter, best one I’ve heard so far. I also included the remix of Daft Punk Technologic.
Also, I happened upon an email from Ha! Yes. He’s got a bunch of mash-ups on his Myspace, you should definitely check it out. I included one of his mash-ups between The Twelves’ remix of the Black Kids I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You and Jay-Z Encore.
UPDATED – Turns out the track isn’t Daft Punk.
Daft Punk fans! Your prayers have been answered. Since their last Alive tour in 2006/2007, we haven’t heard too much from the French house duo. I’d like to think this is normal Daft Punk, but they definitely have something up their sleeves for us. In March 2009, they were signed to produce music for the upcoming film Tron Legacy. Since then there’s been a couple tracks that have been leaked. Back in Sept last year, another track from the soundtrack Fragile was posted, although there’s great speculation whether or not it’s Daft Punk. So I won’t post it, even though it sounds a lot like Daft Punk. I’m really hoping Daft Punk after this project will decide to create a new album for us.
The track leaked recently has been unconfirmed to be Daft Punk, it’s Pilotpriest from Toronto (thanks Dave for the quick response). Titled
The Crash Body Double, it’s 10 minutes long so don’t expect the usual compressed greatness. It’s got a 2 minute intro of ambiance, but I really like how they work the song in. A minute of build up, and at 4 minutes and 30 seconds; it’s epic. So before you listen to the first 30 seconds and say “hey, this song isn’t that great”, patience is a virtue my friend. Teaches me to try to be zero-day, next time I’ll get my sources checked. Daft Punk – The Crash Pilotpriest – Body Double
Well, The Twelves have made it up here. Can’t be sure if it’s their first time touring up in Canada, but it’s certainly the first I’ve heard of it since I’ve heard of them back in ’07. This is the second half of their tour of sorts, they’ve already made it to the west coast. Just to get you a little prepped for the show and for those of you who are still weary about going, here’s two tracks ripped from their older live shows thanks Too Many Sebastians. Their remix of Daft Punk‘s Aerodynamic which ends with Scenario Rock‘s Skitzo Dancer and of Radiohead‘s There There. Also check out the video of them playing. They actually play live? We’ll see if they actually try that hard this time around, we’re all used to those DJ’s who lazily flip through songs on their computer. What’s this live music making stuff? Blasphemy. Also check out their mixtapes one and two, as well as their mini-mix.
