Well, it’s the new year. Apologies for slacking on posts. You know, end of the semester, exams, busy; no I’m not that young, I’m just old and still in school. No more!
So what was your most memorable moment in 2012?
Oppa Gangnam Style? Ugh, I know, wait can you play it again? For Sundtrak? Probably the blog much needed facelift, it looks similar but functions much better. Possibly also having the amazing remixes coming from RAC, Robotaki and The Magician that set things off. I found electronic/house taking somewhat of a dip without mainstream influences, at least here, and dubstep taking dominance in a lot of places, but there were some surprising remixes from this year in the style of electronica.
My favorite track from 2012?
I think the RAC remix of Lana Del Rey still stands strong from last year. I can listen to that song non-stop, RAC just knows how to do it.
Most memorable music video?
I think The Shoes – Time To Dance video wins that with Jake Gyllenhaal killing hipsters.
Most memorable album?
I think the jury is still out on that one. Seems like a tossup between Tame Impala – Lonerism, Django Django – Self Titled, Crystal Castles – III, maybe Grimes – Visions, but the a lot of the tracks kind of weirded me out. Definitely all albums you should check out though.
New years resolutions?
Listen to more music. Post more album reviews or even post more in general. Here’s hoping I can stick to that with the busy schedule I have ahead of me!
Shut up and give me the music! Okay! First off of the year, The Magician remix of Sebastien Tellier‘s Cochon Ville. You can always trust The Magician for a great beat, solid remix of a great track. Second is the Amtrac remix of Chromatic’s Birds of Paradise, I think this one was actually from 2012 but I really liked it and didn’t have the chance to post it before the new year! And lastly, a bit softer, the Disclosure remix of Jessie Ware Running. Really liked the sound of this track.
Let’s make this a short one. Earlier this year, his label Record Makers released a remix album of Sébastien Tellier‘s Sexuality not surprisingly titled Sexuality Remix. Since the original album came out in 2008, there have been some pretty amazing remixes of his tracks. The album was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo! I posted the Moulinex remix in late 2008 but had no idea a remix album was in the works or would be anyways.
Awesome video of the Boys Noize remix of the Boys Noize remix of L’Amour Et La Violence, okay not the content wasn’t so awesome but the video itself and goes really well with the song *psst* more than the video for the original, *shhh*. I included the original just so you can see what Boys Noize did to the track. Also, Kilometer remixed by A-Trak. I can’t decide which remix I love more, let me know which one you like better!
Sébastien Tellier – L’amour et la Violence
The most wonderful time of the year JUST passed and if you’re wonderin why I’m writing 2 days late, just think of me as the Santa that forgets stuff because he likes the sauce….and people leave out Egg Nog instead of Milk now…it’s fun.
But I do come bearing gifts. And OMIGOD, do i have plenty of stuff for you guys!!!! It would literally take me 3 pages to write about these tracks, so what i’m gonna do is shut up and what YOU are gonna do is turn up, cuz them songs is all dope!!!
Also I would like to thank all the promo people, DJs, and Managers for sending us material to keep this baby going. Without you, we’d go tits up.
THANK YOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!
Happy 4th of July! What? I made a post for the 4th of July but not Canada day? Blasphemy! No, I was out celebrating on Canada day (or in sleeping), no time to post! Anyways, a quick post before you go out and celebrate, here are some tracks to listen to. First off, I’m sure you’ve seen this track floating around for a while, N.A.S.A.‘s Strange Enough along with various remixes. This remix by Mr. Oizo may be the first of the track I really liked. It’s slightly awkward in a good way. Second is a great remix by Sidechains of Booty Luv. Despite the name of the track and artist, it isn’t as club as I think you think it is. And lastly completely on a different spectrum, the Sebastien Tellier remix of Phoenix‘s Long Distance Call. I love the original, it’s from their third album. Conversely, this remix actually slows the track down a bit giving a very “Beirut” feel to it.
I love my neighbors, but I love this picture more. Three big names and I somehow completely missed it even though it was completely overposted on Hype Machine. Regardless, it was a great track and I thought I wouldn’t be doing anybody a favor not posting it. So here you go, N.A.S.A. featuring Kanye West, Santogold, and Lykke Li with Gifted. I heard solos from Kanye West and Santogold, I think Lykke Li did the back vocals and the chorus. Great producing though, love the beat. Next track is the Moulinex remix of Sebastian Tellier‘s Kilometer. Very Moulinex. And lastly, the Dskotek remix of MGMT. No, not Discotech, these guys are different. Was a bit iffy about the beat at first, but it really grows on you.
